It lies on a geo fault line, is unstable and floods like a XXXXXXX. Known it for 30 years & always treated with trepidation. Not nice crawling though entrance with dead sheep & disintegrating bits. But, Ibith Peril (locals say "Ibi Peril") is an astonishing cave if you can get to the back of the main chamber & down the glacial meltwater cave with it's incredible formations. Full of glacial till & cobble. I've seen this cave change over years & it ain't friendly. Got lost in main chamber once, so always leave lights at entrance to main chamber. Roof prone to cave ins, entrance prone to flooding, but that's why the yobbos can't get down there & destroy the formations, which at the back "phreatic" cave passage is/are possibly the best & wildest example of formations one will see without SRT kit or everyday caving trips in Dales. IP is superb, for a "cave walker", but not to be taken lightly. I don't believe in anything "daft" but the main chamber can give you the "willies". Fantastic, but not a "friendly" cave. Well worth doing & only with experienced. The lime stone blocks on the cave roof in the main chamber fall with regularity because the Craven fault makes the bedding plane rather unstable. Most excellent post, but treat IP with the utmost respect.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12866321868820346048noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7637858080003886362.post-59558023373652701132015-10-05T11:26:26.316-07:002015-10-05T11:26:26.316-07:00Many thanks for that - I must edit the map! It is actually to the left of the car park as you look at that pic. I fond out the hard way as went out on a bike ride and thought I would just go and look for the entrance, ended up walking 400 yards upstream and found nothing!! I enjoyed the walk tho.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7637858080003886362.post-45221430120388707352014-04-25T13:54:07.777-07:002014-04-25T13:54:07.777-07:00Awesome. Another place I have to go visit. :-)<br />dittzzyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15692360473584073575noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7637858080003886362.post-44995272767594612652014-04-21T13:47:50.499-07:002014-04-21T13:47:50.499-07:00Thanks - I'll go in there with you one time if...Thanks - I'll go in there with you one time if you wish. It's unforgettable. :) First time I've been in for 8 years and I used to think nothing of climbing the waterfall into the upper passage - but alone ...... I think that's too risky!!! Pictures come out well underground on my little canon IXUS digital - in fact it's better in caves than on the surface - bless it! When I'm crawling, to keep it dry I put it inside my helmet ...!Stephen Oldfieldhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12530850075205687496noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7637858080003886362.post-23423828724914205272014-04-21T13:26:17.892-07:002014-04-21T13:26:17.892-07:00Superb post Stephen and stunning photographs.
